Please, please, tell me all you know. I need your help! I am just building my first system, the success is very limited, and I am not sure what is going on.

THE PROBLEM: When I switch on the computer, the HD spins, the CPU fan spins, the CD runs, but:
!!! The screen stays black ('no signal')
!!! I hear no beep from the speaker at all
!!! The floppy does nothing and its light does even not go on.

THE COMPONENTS:
MB: Soyo 6BA+IV (has a LED, telling that its powered).
CPU: PIII-500 slot 1.
128MB SDRAM DIMM PC133.
HD: Maxtor 27.2GB DiamondMax plus (7200/UDMA66) on the IDE3 port (UDMA66) with correct cable.
FD: The old one from 3 years ago (TEAC?)
CD: MagicWriter 4x4x24, on IDE1 port (not UDMA66).
Video card: Matrox Marvel G400TV (AGP) or my old Diamond Stealth 3D2000 2MB.
AT keyboard with adapter, serial mouse.
Case: Inwin S500 (metal MB base)

WHAT I TRIED THAT DID NOT HELP:
1. Exchange all drive cables.
2. Check floppy in other PC, is o.k.
3. Disconnect one or more of the drives. I even disconnected ALL drives
4. Reseat DIMM
5. Change video card (tried PCI card in 2 different slots)

WHAT CAN I DO ?? Ladies and Gentlemen, you have 20 hours (I can't check back before). Every input is appreciated - I need it.

Stephen

Hello,

Did you check your processor? Try unplugging and plugging it again. It sounds to me like you have a problem with your processor.
I hope someone will be able to help.

Start with just the processor, ram and video card installed. Some boards require more force than you might think to properly seat the ram and the processor when new.
Once that much works, add the rest.

If that doesn't work, check the cmos jumper. Some boards are shipped with it set to the clear position rather than run position.

How about trying a different memory stick, had same problem, switched memory and system worked. Good Luck

Do as Ygor says - start with the minumum (cpu, memory, video) and then add one by one - if no boot, recheck cables, make sure everything is seated, check for loose screw flopping about under MB.

I had the same problem. It turned out to be a bad motherboard

Dear friends,

Thanks sooooo much for your help. NOW IT BOOTS !!

It indeed was a not fully plugged CPU, like Medo proposed. I thought I would break the MB doing things like seating it correctly. I couldn't believe it. So I had to convince myself (by taking the CPU out, measuring the depth of the slot and transfering that depth on the CPU board) that it has still to go way deeper. Now, I get my boot screen and I am happy again.

Be sure, I will come back with my next problem. Thanks again !
