I wanted to upgrade our PC's to Win98, but there is a blockade of uninformed opinion preventing that. So, I need to find the Win95 update that corrects the date once and for all. It's on a Compaq laptop, and whenever it's shut down and restarted, the date flips back to some day in 1982. Not sure why. Come to think of it, could it be a problem with the battery since it's busted? Any suggestions out there? Thanks!

With the date falling back to 1982 is the BIOS. You need to see if compaq has a BIOS update and DO REPLACE the bios/cmos battery http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif You can download the Win95 y2k patch from Microsoft but it will not help you until you get the RTC (real time clock) working properly.

Is it possible the windows update site may have a y2k fix for this?? Have you been there yet. It should be under favorites, links. If not go to www.microsoft.com (http://www.microsoft.com) and under downloads choose windows updates. It may take several tries to get the critical components installer to work.. Compaq's web site is a real mess also.. GLuck, DrVette
