I am trying to add a new scsi drive to a sparc running solaris. I am not having any luck. I have all the jumpers and scsi ID set right as I copied them over exactly from the bad drive it is replacing. I tried a boot -r but it is still not seeing the new drive. When I type format -d c0t2d0 (the address of the old drive) it sees nothing. also a plain format doesnt see the drive. Also if I go into /devices I dont see c0t2d0 listed. Any one have any ideas?

do you have a boot floppy for the sparc?

Are you sure you had a bad drive, or might it be the SCSI BIOS that's bad? - What about the SCSI cable itself??

In other words - how do you know the drive was the bad component - are you making an assumption, or was smoke coming out of a discolored drive which started to sound like an abused ford F150 in michigan?

Haven't done much with solaris since our group moved mostly to NT but some scsi drives will not work in sparcs at least not in the 10's that I had. You might try using a reconfig command so it looks for new hardware. You might also try booting from CD and using the sun install to get through the disk config portion and see it it shows up, then partition drive and exit without installing solaris.

The bad drive was a quantum. We sent it to them and they said it was bad and reolaced it under warranty. As far as I can tell it is identical to the bad one it is replacing. Everything else on that scsi chain is working fine. I think I just might reinstall the os.
