i have a slot1 pchips pc100 bxcel m729 motherboard with an amibios running a celeron 333 using a pga convertor. when the pc starts all i get is 8 beeps. according to the amibios site, this means that there is something wrong with the display memory. this cannot be the case as i have changed the graphics card. i have even changed the processor and ram! still i get 8 beeps. this is very frustrating!

Possibilities:-
1. Clear the CMOS
2. Ensure the primary display adapter is set correctly(AGP/PCI)
3. Possibly an internal modem/soundcard is robbing the IRQ off the graphics card
Has the graphics card been working before or is it a new build pc? Maybe try the system with all other cards removed and see what happens http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

1) the cmos has been cleared
2)i have tried an agp and pci card, so primary selection is not a problem
3) at the moment i only have the cpu and ram plugged in, and still receive 8 beeps
4) if i remove the ram i get nothing at all
5) if i remove the graphics card i still get 8 beeps
?) the board does have onboard sound, but i dont think the post even routine bothers with it

Make sure the video card is fully seated - the AGPs can take a good bit of force. Try the card in another computer, and see if you can boot with another video card.
