Finally got WIN98SE installed via "clean boot" per teh instructions in the install.txt file on the CD. On the final reboot I got a message saying one of my files was bad & Windows would restore it. It rebooted fine, but I cannot find Internet Connection Sharing via Control Panel/Add Remove/Windows Setup/Internet Tools - it just ain't there! I tried Add/Remove from the CD with the same results. I look in Control Panel/System & it says my version is SE 4.10.2222. I checked SiSoft Sandra and it says Win98 version 4.10.1998. I looked at another computer I upgraded and it says it's 4.10.2222a.

Am I right in surmising the install still did not complete properly and my only real option is to backup all my data, format, and rebuild from scratch? I've been fighting problems installing SE on theis machine for a month and see this as the only way out unless someone can tell me how to rectify teh version number & find ICS.

Thanks

mine is 4.10 2222A and I have ICS. Pretty strange.

Were you having any problems before? Is this a fresh install or an upgrade? Is there a modem installed and working? I am also not sure about the version thing, does anyone know?

Actually, I've had all kinds of problems getting this going. I would constantly get an error message on the first reboot after trying to install 98SE saying my configuration is invalid. I do believe it is time to quite playing with this & do a clean install. I think that is the only way I'll ever get it updated.

Thanks.

TMan: Is this the upgrade or full version. I have the Win 98 4.10.1998 on my computer and the 4.10.2222A (factory installed) on my daughter's. After the second try of installin 2nd edt. upgrade on my computer, I went back to Win 98 and am leading a totally less frustrating life and enjoying my time on my computer instead of a constant fight.Beleive me , before I got hip to some of evils of the beige box, I spent a month or so, fidling around , going bananas, before I called tech support and had them help fix things. I've seen on this board alot of posts about 2nd edt, I know , for a fact, my machine, like a bad heart, gave 2nd edt. a full rejection.
