I want to buy a CD burner. I'm thinking of going with an IDE device.. don't plan to be doing a lot of burning.
I am considering the HP 8200i, it' s pretty cheap. I heard it's based on the Sony CRX 120E.
Any comments or recommendations?

Like quietinthecorner I too have a Philips CDD-3610 2X2X6. While it's slightly dated now, I've never had any problems with it. I know someone who has a newer Philips 4X4X16, which only takes 20Min for a full CD!!

I got a HP 8250i. It's fast, 20 minutes for a disc. Plus better quality.
Plextor has an IDE burner out now too. Will be a while yet for me, but I'm going to give it a serious look.

Don't know if you have a Comp USA, however they usually have a CDRW on sale every week. I got a Phillips PCRW 404K 4x4x32 on sale for $129.95 plus tax and it seems to a fine unit for the money. It was $189.00 plus shipping on Price Watch at the time (Dec 99)

Anything with Plextor written on it gets my vote. The 8x4 IDE RW drive they have out now is very nice. My burns to frisbee ratio on the older Plextor 8x20 scsi drive we have at work is something like 500 to 1. Anything Plextor you can bet will be good quality.
My personal burner is a Teac R55S and I love it. It is not as fast as the Plextor 8x's, but it does DAE at 7x, can read through just about any error you throw at it, and has not burned a bad disc for me yet. I have yet to find a limit for overburning on it yet.
