Okay, I go to the computer guy today...and he still says that I can run the mouse on COM port 2, he thinks maybe windows hasn't recognized it...and he is right...when you check the ports in Device Manager it only listed 1 and 4. so he fixes it so it sees all of them....

I bought a new scroll mouse from him, replaced the processor fan, added a case fan, added a parallel port and ordered a scanner.

I get home, set up the new mouse, putting it on the 25pin using the adapter and gender changer(do you guys remember me posting about this before? I hope so, cuz I don't wanna repeat all of it, but I can)
so that the 9pin COM port 1 is free for the digital camera to hook up to.

The mouse is in, it scrolls all is well. I hook up the camera, it connects, i get to upload the pics, all is well.

I go to get online and my modem doesn't work...I go through about 8million diff. options and get it to connect to the internet but still doesn't work right.

It shows the mouse on COM 2, where it is supposed to be and the modem on COM 4 where it is supposed to be....but while I am messing with it, the mouse freezes and lo and behold, the modem works...

So i go back, take the mouse off of COM 2, put it back on COM 1(the nine pin) and wham, bam the modem works again no problem...only now the mouse doesn't scroll like its supposed to...and I won't be able to hook up my digital camera again...unless i move the mouse back to the 25pin...then the modem won't work...but if the mouse is on the 9pin, then the scrolling doesn't work...Couldn't he just add another card with another serial port on it??????

HE MAKES ME NUTS!!!!

What should i do/have him do????

Only one thing you can do. Do not deal with him anymore. He built you a computer that has given you nothing but problems and he can not fix it so just do not deal with him.I feel you could do a better job than he does a fixing it.

You said you talked to a lady at a computer shop and was impressed by her, right? I could only say give her shop a try.
Did she say how much she would charge you to fix or upgrade it? You can upgrade to a newer motherboard that has DIMM slots and SIMM slots to save money for now on the ram.
Have you tried to enable those ports yourself? By 25 pin you mean a printer port and by nine pin you mean a serial port, right?
Re-read you %#%#%!camera post. (http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum2/HTML/004692.html)

Ok now let me see if I got this right you have your mouse on com 1(serial port? should be) and the camera on com 2(serial port?) The printer port(25 pin female should be LPT1 or is it com 1? Where is your keyboard pluged in a PS2 plug? PS/2 is optional on your board do you have one,two or none?. And you added the parallel port(25 pin female) card, does it also have serial ports?
It is standard for Com1 and Com2 to be serial ports and LPT1 be the printer port(parellel port).

If your motherboard is an "AT" form factor, you can replace the 25-pin serial connector with a 9-pin, then you will have 2, 9-pin connectors (this is a $3 modification). To correct the no-scrolling problem remove the mouse in the Device Manager and reboot, then if necessary reload the drivers for the scrolling mouse.

Note: Changing out the 25-pin connector is not an option if you have an ATX motherboard.

What kind of digital camera is it? Does it have a USB option - if possible USB is really the best way to go.

I went through some of your previous posts and was unable to find out what kind of motherboard you might have, so sorry if the advice is kind of vague.

Sounds like you need to kick this tech to the curb.return Check out your settings in system Information see if there are any conflicts. If you have a PS2 connection use it I switched to a serial mouse after my PS2 caused a conflict with my ethnrnet card. It sounds like an IRQ conflict to me. Also if your not comfortable in taking this on yourself I'd recommend going with a different tech it sounds like this guys fairly incompotent.

Ok here goes. Mouse on com-1, modem on com-4,digital camera on com-2. No problems. Scanner on USB. Zip drive and printer hooked to lpt-1. It can be done.

CM it is a FIC VA-502 http://www.fica.com/english/product/motherboard/socket7/va502.htm

I don't think she has the optional USB.

Alright this is pretty basic.

Com1 and com3 both share the same irq, as do com2 and com4. I think you must have an AT board because the use of the ps/2 port would also resolve this. Ron_C has a workable config above. Note how he has the devices that cannot share Irq's on their own com's.

She does have a baby AT board and the Ps/2 ports are also optional.
