I'm tring to upgrade a Pentium 166MHX PC to a 200MMX CPU. When I follow the instruction that came with the PC, on boot up with new CPU in place I get a Black screen (during the bios load). The black screen occurs shortly after it displays the access to the BIOS setup. The PC is a NEC Ready 9625 and I'm using a MXPRO 200MMX upgrad CPU from
Evergreen Technologies. I have reset the jumper(s) for CPU speed to 200. This doesn't help. The setup screen does not show anything for the CPU speed. Can anyone help me??? I've replaced the Mother board with a new one from NEC - still ahve the same problem. Is there any place that would have an BIOS upgrade for the NEC boards?

There is no upgrade for the NEC mother board, so replaced 80% of the system and re-built it to clear up my problem. Thanks to everyone for their help & comments.

Have you tried getting an update for your BIOS yet?

You're going to a lot of trouble for very little performance increase. Why bother. Go back to where you were, and you're fine.

Good Luck, Jeff

You will have to clear the bios, should tell you how in your manual, then reboot and see if you can get into bios,or try a bootable floppy.

First off i agree with ram...try reseting your bios...i think you may be able to do taht by removing the jumper alltogether or by taking out the battery for about 10-15 seconds...And remember if you have the means ...faster is allways better...even if you dont have a mind blowing clockspeed you should see some difference in performance http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
