As a First timer, think I need some help.
System:
1854 MB rev3 (FSB jumpers set to 100MHz)
InWin S500 case with SPI 250W PS
IBM 20.5GB 7200RPM drive UDMA66 (Primary Master)
Plextor 8432T ATAPI CD-R (Secondary Master)
Teac or Sony floppy (tried both)
HSDRAM 128MB
ASUS 6600 Deluxe GeForce AGP card
Viewsonic PF790 19" monitor
P3-500E
IWill SlocketII (set to 1.6v and 100MHz)
I have always been able to get into the BIOS with no problem, I just can't get the machine to reliably boot for installing Win98.
I have now been able to get the Win98 install process partially completed, although it is still true that when booting it may take 2-4 times before the reboot actually works and the floppy boots up into the install program. All the failures are the same flashing underline in the upper left corner of the monitor that require me to hit the reset button.
Hopefully someone has seen some of this and can point me in thr right direction.
My latest progress:
1) Win98 install progressed successfully through the formatting of the hard disk, and the loading of the CD-ROM driver, but just after scandisk finished running, the text "Scanning system registry" flashed across the top of the screen and the following text appeared on the screen:
Standard mode: Bad Fault in MS-DOS Extender
Fault: 0002 Stack Dump: 1148 0000 3006
Raw fault frame: EC=004B IP=C106 CS=0307 FL=3206 SP=01A2 SS=027F
after rebooting, I got the same except the following changes:
IP=06B0 CS=0437 FL=3246 SP=0EBE
the 3rd reboot with changes:
IP=06B5
the 4th time with changes:
IP=06C2
perplexed and confused,
bstan
