I'm working with a 10 user Netware 5.0 network with 4 Windows 95 workstations. The server has an internal HP 5001 (C1594C) Dat tape drive installed. backup exec was installed and the tape drive was working. I was contacted to begin providing setrvice when the previous provider decided to stop all service.
The problem is, the tape drive just stoped backing up one day. I tried lauching Backup Ecec from the work station, but it says "can't find the server". I have the only admin password and login that the owner knows.
Is there a way to break into Netware 5.0 or verify the password and login I have has full privelages to the server? I think this may be one of my problems, but can't prove it.
Does anyone know what version of Backup Exec I need to be compatible with Netware 5.0?
Seagate and HP get Amnesia when I contact them. Funny, it's their products but they don't want to support them!
Thanks for your help,
Tony

Tony..Seagate is only supporting software that came BUNDLED with the drive. http://www.seagate.com/support/software/backupexec.html
You will need to contact VERITAS SOFTWARE for support on using backupexc with netware. depending on what version you have. http://support.veritas.com/menu_ddProduct_BENWARE.htm is the url to the backupexc for netware info.

Alt+esc will allow you to toggle through the screens on the novell server.Alt+Tab does a few submenu's in some screens. just alt\tab to your backup exec screen and at the bottom you will see your functions keys listed. I would suggest running a head cleaner in the drive several times, check the log for errors and reschedule the backup.
If they are using tape rotation and put the wrong tape in on the wrong day the system will quit backing up. It's pretty simple but do it on the server. As for checking the rights to your user name you have you can go to one of the workstations on the network and login to it with that password. Then at the run prompt type nwadmin. If it can't find it then look on the network in sys or vol1 for nwadmin. Start it up,this will give you a gui interface to all users, objects the works. Look through the tree for your user name that you have then right click it and select details.Under details you will see buttons on the left hand side, scroll through until you get to users rights.Look in there if he belongs to the group admin or any group with admin rights it will show there.

When I toggle through the screens (Alt/Esc), I see the Netware 5.0 monitor, and the console along with an all grey screen with nothing else on it.
I went into NLM's loaded and saw an HP tape device NLM, but that's all.
sounds like it needs to be loaded. Cant quite remeber its program name. Should be something like LOAD Backupexec.nlm.
Look on vol1 from a workstation for the proper naming of the backupexec.nlm and then load it. Should be in a folder called backup or backupexec.
