I have been working on recovering jpg & tivo files from a 750GB SATA HD for three months now. This is a process that once begun, takes my computer days to complete.

I have been using a Retail version of Recover My Files.

I got into this mess when suddenly my External Antec MX-1 750GB eSATA HD became unusable. Vista Home could see the HD, but not the files. Foolishly I entered Disc Management and Initialized the HD.

Turns out the Antec MX-1 Power Supply was the problem all along; Antec shipped me a new one. But of course the HD I had Initialized was now RAW.

Recover My Files did a fairly good job of recovering my Folders, and File Names. Though many Files were in the wrong Folders, I thought I would be ok. The Preview Utility that is Active during the Recovery Process displayed my Jpegs perfectly.

I saved the recovered files to a 1TB SATA HD, which was installed internally. No USB for this job ! It takes days as it is.

But although the names of the Tivo Files and Jpeg files look fine, not a single one will open. I've tried opening them with a variety of programs, all of which usually open these files just fine. But all these Recovered Files just yield an Error Message.

Many Recovery Utilities listed in the Sticky say they can be used to recover files from a HD when the files have been simply Deleted, or the HD accidentally Formatted. I guess my Initialized NTFS HD is somewhere between those extremes.

Currently the HD has no assigned Drive Letter. I can assign one to it, no problem. But when I do, that does not seem to help in any way.

Has anyone had success in recovering Data from an Initialized NTFS SATA HD ?

Try GeteDataBack instead.

http://www.runtime.org/data-recovery-downloads.htm

Use the free trial and if it can recover the files and they work, then buy the retail license and recover the entire drive.

Amazing.

GetDataBack is everything RecoverMyFiles should have been.

Wish I hadn't blown so much $$ on that piece of junk.

Now that I know I can really recover my drive I'll just set it aside and wait until I can spare $79.

Thanks !
