I just bought a new custom built PC: AMD K6 450mhz, 64mb ram, 10gig hd. the Bios is AWARD ver 4.51. The problem is when it boots up it's stuck on "Building DMI Pool" then NOTHING happens.

It does not even reach the boot sequence, so not boot disk is gonna help here... HELP!!!
there is nothing on the HD yet.. HELP!!!

So you have no os(operating system IE:win95/98) when you say nothing on the drive? If you are getting to the dmi pool then post is completed.Sounds like it can't find either the harddrive or an OS. Could be failing to initialize a piece of hardware.
If the drive does not have an os then a bootdisk is the only way you are going to get started. Unless you have win98 and make your cdrom bootable in the bios.

thanks for the response, yes I believe it's the keyboard (another guy in another forum pointed it out) because the plug-in hole is barely visible and I had to jam it in to make a connection... so you're on the right track too. thanks.

If you can get into Bios (usually del key)
try setting primary and secondary ide channels to autodetect. Then you should see
if motherboard finds harddrive.

There is NOTHING wrong with your computer.

You just DON't have a Master Boot Record on that harddrive.

FDISK and create a partition and Format it with a /s switch and install your OS

Your welcome,

I got that screen before on my motherboard. I tried near close to everything on my Soyo 6VBA-133. All of my other components and they were working properly. If Jin's suggestion doesn't work, i'm guessing you cant even get into the dos prompt, i'll just suggest mine..... take the computer back or get a new motherboard. (don't waste your money though, get a refund or warranty.

you guys don't get it...

the power-up didn't even reach the bootup sequence.. and if you can't get to the bootup sequence, HOW IN THE WORLD ARE YOU GONNA THROW AN OS ON IT???

The BIOS was BAD...

thanks for everyone's input. I loosed the expansion card bracket so that the keyboard will fit firmly and yes I still got the error.

I returned the PC and the tech & I trouble-shot it. Yes we took every card out one by one until no cards left (but video) and even tried a new video card, SAME ERROR!!! so we determine the bios was just screwed!!! and then we tried a new MB and it worked.. and I did give them a piece of my mind for selling me a POS.

I think you'll find it wasn't a motherboard problem at all. I've seen a fair few DMI errors in my time and they have all been solved by relatively simple means. Some react to a boot disc, others, that won't react to a boot disc will react to a different boot disc (sys files copied manually from a win95 sytem). I've had a few that were slightly stuborn but they were fixed with a couple of tweaks to the BIOS.

So I think you weren't sold a dodgy board, you were merely given dodgy support and a lame brain excuse for them not getting it right the first time!
