I am going through the clock battery on my PC on a regular basis - like every 3 -4 MONTHS. Previous PCs I've owned lasted many more YEARS. Any ideas.. could there be electrical problems on the M/B? Clock is flaky initally, then the CMOS starts having problems.....

No i think you may have a problem there. I thought that I had a problem with mine when I was upgrading cases. The cmos checksome errors kept popping up. I am not sure what i did if anything to correct this problem. I just beat on the thing but I think it is a grounding problem

don't know if this will help or not. but, I have had new boards that had battry problems. what I do most of the time is let the system run for a couple of days. and give it time to recharge the battry to the fullest it can. if that dosen't solve the problem. you have a power drain somewhere. or the contacts might be dirty or it could just be the brand of the battry you are useing. some times these set on a shelves for a long time. dose the system clock begin to lose time slowley?

Who made the motherboard? New or used? Are there any other symptoms? What brand of battery are you using? What voltage does the motherboard manual indicate you need? When the first one burned out - did you take it to the store and ask for another one just like it? Or did you actually take out the motherboard manual to determine if the correct battery was in there to begin with?
Did a fluid ever leak into the system case - what was it?
Any frayed fan wires contacting the board?
How much dust is in the case?
Is the motherboard touching the metal case anywhere except the mounting screws?
Are there any loose screws in the case?

I've seen all of these things burn systems and a few more.

Thanks for the input - I solved the problem - buy a new system!! I need one anyway - but I will check the things listed to avoid problems in the future
