If you take it apart... do NOT remove batteries willie-nillie. I have/had a sat 110cds that had a similar prob. And now the thing does jack-squat. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif But on the sunnier side i was able to canibalize it for parts for my sat pro 435cds http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Sounds like he got into the bios and set a password...If you can find out were the "clear Cmos" jumper/switch is you can reset it to the defaults http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Alexis, you didn't say whether you could get around the password box and get into Windows or not. If you are able, and to get rid of the password box/window, go to start-find program and type *.pwl, then highlight all and delete them. This got rid of mine, but of course, if it is set in bios, this won't help.

If you can't figure out which is the cmos reset jumper, try removing the battery on the mother board.

Remove external power first and pull the main battery out. Remove the mother board battery for about 30 seconds, then re-install it. That should do it.

Do not pull batteries unless you know FOR SURE that the battery is the right one. I pulled batteries in my Toshiba Laptop, and now it does not work!!

We've got about 50 or 60 Toshiba 2100's right now here at the company that I work for and when a bootup password gets set on those things, they have to be sent off to Toshiba to remove the password. Not sure about the 4030 line...

Yes I would ask Toshiba first if just resetting the cmos jumper will do it or if you need to send it to a factory site. Sorry if it were a pc No prob. But being a laptop then we have some problems.
