Hello,

I just built my new computer system and everything has been good for the three days it has been up and running. When I got home from shopping tonight I noticed that I have two very thin lines running horizontally across my monitor. One near the top and one near the bottom, they are both equal distance from the top and bottom of the monitor, about two inches from the edge. My monitor is one component that I did not upgrade, it is an old Sony 200ES. My video card is new, an MSI N9600 GT OC. I have not turned my system off in the three days it has been up and running. Is there any way to tell if this is a monitor issue, graphics card issue or possibly overheating?

Thanks

Those are the wires holding the aperture grille. They are normal in a CRT. You can't get rid of them. That's just how it is.

One drawback to the use of aperture grille monitors is the faint lines that appear at one third and two thirds of the screens' height (often at just one location—usually 2/3rds from top—on smaller displays like the Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-21FS140, of 21 inches). These lines are caused by two thin wires that run perpendicular to the grille which are used to maintain equal spacing between the vertical wires of the grille.

Thanks for the replies. Glad to know it is just the monitor. I didn't like the timing of them showing up after I upgraded my graphics card. Looks like it is time to start shopping for a new monitor. Rebooting didn't help, but I tried!

Rebooting will not change anything. That is a physical part of the monitor. There is nothing wrong with it.

The time to upgrade to an LCD was a couple of years ago. :p
