upgraded my bios and i think its corrupted my cmos, its an old soyo motherboard and it will not reach as far as booting to the floppy drive to get the old bios. It hangs on the cmos screen settings. I cleared cmos but this dosen't work.

see if you can find someone else with the same board that hasn't tried to flash yet - copy their file - put it on a boot floppy and try restoring from the boot floppy diskette.

chances are you won't find anyone with the same board and a copy of that file unless you are really lucky - but post it here - you never know.

Next - when you get a new board - next time you attempt a BIOS flash - back up the file - stop the flash process - go get the file off the hard drive and put it on a boot floppy. copy the flash program to the boot floppy as well. then do the flash and complete it.

Always have the motherboard manual and a printed copy of the flash instructions on hand before proceeding. Then you have your jumper settings and instructions and don't have to depend on a hard drive you might not be able to reach during a bad flash.

Have got old bios file on floppy as well as flash utility file, the problem is it will not boot as far as the floppy drive to replace new bios with old bios. The system just hangs on the cmos screen, is there anyway of sorting out the cmos or eprom.

In most of the old boards there is a jumper that you can use to short out the cmos to return it the original configuration. Don't know if it will help but it is worth a shot.

thanks but i've tried clearing the cmos with the jumper but it keeps on hanging on the cmos configuring screen, i think the upgrade has corrupted the cmos in some way i there's no way back, cheers anyway.

If the bios is hard wired to the MoBo then I'm afraid your SOL. If not, contact soyo for a bios replacment.
