Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : VISTA Vs. XP cant access printer
In my home network, I have a Samsung mono laser printer on the upstairs machine running XP-Pro. It is shared. I have successfully connected to this printer from another XP-Pro laptop with no problems through the workgroup. When I try to connect to it with a VISTA-Business machine (both a laptop and a new desktop) I get an "Access denied" message, even though I know that printer sharing is turned on and it shows up fine in the local network. Help, Please...
Thanks

Make sure the username and workgroup names are the same.
Do you have simple file sharing enabled or not?
Do you have firewall software on the print server machine? If so, make sure to allow access from your local network.
Simple file serving is on. All machines are using the same workgroup name. The firewall thing could be an issue.

What firewall app are you using?
How are you installing the printer? You can try installing as a "local" printer on the Vista machines, and then add a Standard TCPIP port using the IP of the XP print server.
I decided last night to go ahead and install the printer as a network printer. It works fine that way, and I no longer need a host computer that has to stay on. Thanks for the help.
