Hello. Everyone Read This Duzzy.!

My ASUS P3F-B has some werid voltage reports. My concern is my +3.3v voltage line and my +12.0v line. My 3.3v line fluctuates from 3.488 to 3.504v and my +12.0v moves wildly from 12.02 to 12.22v.

I at first though this oddity was due to my using CPU idle 5.6 to idle my processor. I read that the programs tends to draw from these lines, but when I stopped using the program my readings from the +3.3v lines and +12.0v lines remained the same.

My computer has also crashed several times while I have been trying to connect to the Internet. I have been getting some frequent crashes and the dreaded "blue screen" when connecting to the Internet.

I installed Win 98 SE on a computer I made myself. I have been getting some frequent crashes and "blue screens". When I was connected to the Internet today I received this error: Protection fault: 0028 http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gifIDFC587.

It prompted me to hit enter or Esc to continue. I hit Esc and my Internet connection was dead. This has happened several times this week. I rebooted my system and entered windows again to find that my display was in 16bit-color mode and my driver and 3dfxtools for my Voodoo 3 2000 PCI somehow disappeared.

Interestingly enough I WAS NOT IN SAFEMODE! I reinstalled my 3dfx drivers and put my screen back into 32bit color. I scanned my hard drive with the last scan engine and dats from Mc Afee antivirus but found nothing.

To continue the story I received a window pop-up warning me that DRIRMT32.DLL cannot start. I do not know what this means. I also have been receiving many error messages from Dr. Watson. One telling me that a trial version of Adobe Page Maker 6.5 and Auto Type Manager has altered Windows system files. I un-installed both applications but the error remains along with a module file ATMSYS.drv that will not go away.

To perplex the situation further I have received other Dr. Watson messages: One saying Mc Archiv (I believe this is the Mcafee screen saver virus scanner) has invalid memory access. Another message saying my Voodoo3 driver has accessed memory improperly. Another message said the same about my Voodoo 3 driver when I was running my Asus probe 2.2x monitoring software. Also I have another message the same of Mc Archiv which happened when I was running my screen saver.

I am sorry this is so much to load on you all at once but all these errors happened together for about a week now since that I started running the Dr. Watson. If you need anything else please contact me immediate by email anytime. Thanks for your time and effort. My system configuration follows:

Windows 98 Second Edition OS

Pentium III 600mhz .25micron fabbed Processor

ASUS P3B-F Motherboard Slot 1 4dimms 6 pci Rev 1.03 running BIOS rev 1003

128 MBs of Micron PC 100 memory

Western Digital 27.3 Gigabyte Hard drive on a ATA/66 Promise Card

Voodoo 3 2000 PCI 16 Mb video card running at time of crash latest drivers as of Jan. 25, 2000
Currently running the original shipping drivers.

hello Malachi,

I too have a P3B-F/600mhz/voodoo3/128mb/rain and the volts vary identical to yours , it's within spec the 3.5v is the VIO reading as you know if you change the jumper JP20 it ups it to 3.65v making the agp\chipset\ram more stable for overclocking 3.5v is standard the dimms are rated 3.3v -as to the crashes\errors well i suppose you've made sure there are no irq or mem address conflicts,if so then run some quick diagnostic programs such as docmem for ram etc to eliminate possible hardware faults -pull out the sound or decoder card then play for awhile see if it makes any difference -then uninstall some of the software and run things(don't take dr.watson as gospel too!)sorry can't be of more help but looks like you could be in for a format and reinstall

With Win98SE you can go to System Information, select tools, select system file checker, click settings put checkmark on check for changed files and check for deleted files, select search criteria select the files and subfolders you want to check, click OK, select start. If it finds corrupt or missing files you can follow the instrutions and restore them. This may prevent you from having to reformat and reinstall. You may also want to check this site www.speedguide.net/windows/win_bugs.htm (http://www.speedguide.net/windows/win_bugs.htm)
I was having similar problems and the bug fix on this site helped. I have an Abit Bx6-2 mobo and my volts are doing just about the same as yours with no problem. Hope this helps.

Muley has a good point there, I only differ in the opinion that you should only restore the files that are related to the page faults or fatal exception errors. The reason is that lots of files change from the original due to new software and hardware additions since first installed. Also check with MS on Nathans site www.ehelpfree.com/nathan (http://www.ehelpfree.com/nathan) great site. DrVette

The System File Checker should prompt you to, update verification only, on the files that have been changed due to installation of new programs or updates. It will give you four choices on those files, if you select the lower one, verification of all changed files, you won't be prompted for any additional updated files. One other thought is if the files required by System File Checker were corrupted on installation this system may not work correctly. I just learned of www.ehelpfree.com/nathan (http://www.ehelpfree.com/nathan) from this post, it is an excellant site. Thanks to Richard_Cranium for the info.
