Why is my system so sh*t in Quake3?

AMDk6 III 450@500
128mb
12.4GB Quantum Bigfoot
Fourtissimo
Xentor32 TNT2Ultra @ 195mhz

Quake3 = 640x480 medium settings 24FPS?

Whats going on?

Why is it so slow!

I tried a AVI chispet socket7 as well as the current Gigabyte Ali motherboard, both the same speed, both slow!

Please help.

You should try updating the TnT2 Drivers..I heard it makes a big difference.

also, a AMD K6 has that 3d-now based code too...not sure if you have to optimize that somehow or not. I don't own a K6 so I'm not sure how you do it, has something to do with you video drivers I think.

I bet it would be faster on an Intel chipset socket 7 MB.

Still, Q3 takes an awfull lot of mip's and even some P3 hi end systems choke in some parts.

I have a K7 600 and had a similar problem. I upgraded from the K62 450 to the K7 Athlon (with a Rage Fury) and my FPS went from 40-50 to about 20-25....

Not sure what the problem is/was....I even tried the ATI "unsupported" AMD tweaked drivers...any ideas?

So now, I am waiting for my Elsa TNT2 card...and then use the reference drivers from nVidia...

I think it is the Quake III engine, I have PIII 500 @ 560 and that game runs the slowest out of all the games on my pc, I have unreal tournament and it runs alot faster then Quake III, I don't think it's your pc it's just the game's engine.

are you running it in 16 or 32 bit mode ? try lowering it to 16 bit and see if that works. Or if you are daring..try over clocking your vid card...though I wouldn't some say that a little tweaking can work wonders.

I think Dx7 and the latest drivers will definitely help...besides, Q3 takes a lot!

On my TNT2U with P3@600 and med vid setting...it gets around 64fps in demo1
