I am trying to setup a shared folder through the windows firewall.

main office 192.168.0.xxx

2nd office via wan 192.168.1.xxx

with the firewall turned off I can map the shared folder and copy files to it
However I do not want windows firewall turned off (on the laptop) because when the end user leaves the office she won't turn it on when she surfs elsewhere.
So how can I get through the windows firewall from the remote lan? on the local lan everything works fine.

thanks

Are you connecting over the internet? Is this a VPN connection?

The easiest way to VPN through firewalls, is to use Hamachi (https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/vpn.asp).
PPTP can be a real bearcat to configure.

You open the VPN port (1723) through the Firewall.
