a good advice here was avoiding to use it. but my way of working needs the shutdown.
on one of my win2k-hdds shutdown does not work. hdd and pc is not shutting down.
possibly standby is working. or, is this standby?
i never understood the difference between hdd and pc shutdown. above all when we can decide between hdd going down earlier or viceversa. let alone the difference to (ruhezustand)-you certainly know the right word. i cannot use it since i have not enough space on my systempartition. thanks a lot.

Do a search for shutdown.exe. 2000 may not have it as I found the below.
Shutdown.exe is in the resource kit.

The one in XP might work. Probably needs to be in the same location.

I recently bought a NOS copy of the Resource Kit w/CD from Amazon, just to get that plus a few other little goodies. The shutdown.exe file works fine, but your computer must be capable of being shut down from Windows - otherwise you'll reach a screen saying It is now safe to shut off your computer.
Not familiar enough with ruhezustand - hibernation - in 2000 to know if it's a factor in your situation, but I doubt it. My guess is that you have an older computer that can't be shut down completely from Windows. In my experience, the general rule is that a computer with a momentary power On button will shut down OK, while older machines with an On/Off rocker switch will have to be shut off manually after Windows stops.

ruhezustand=hibernation
i have found shutdown.exe( winnt\system32
i dont understand its function. do i have to execute each time or only one time? i need an automatic shutdown, which is not working anymore with built-in energy options. i tried out almost everything. resetting to never etc.
maybe it will work again hen testing each of the three settings(without hibernatione) alone and add the second one and third one, one after the other.

shutdown /s /t 00
-sShutdown the computer
-t xx Set timeout for shutdown to xx seconds
and if you wish to add
-f Forces running applications to close without warning
So shutdown /s /t 00 /f
Test it and should it work like you want , then make it a shortcut, double click it and it will shut down.
Now if ACPI is disabled in the BIOS, you will still need to turn of the computer after it shutsdown.

Language barrier!
He's asking about Standby and Sleep, not shutdown. He wants some sort of unattended low power mode and it's not working.
Low-power states are BIOS-dependent. Get the latest BIOS update first. Since the Windows "HAL" (hardware abstraction layer) is established during setup and is BIOS-dependent, reinstalling Windows may be necessary.
Frankly, I would suggest that you [finally] upgrade to XP. It's time.
