Hello all, back again...hope you can help
I used Partition Magic 8 within Windows XP to merge two partitions on my secondary drive (non-OS). It completed but said that there was an error in mereging a folder or something. The folder I named for the transfer during the merge is empty and does not contain the contents of the second partition that was suppose to be merged in to the one total partition. Any suggestions?

If the partition that the data was on is gone, it's really bad. I would never use PM to merge partitions. It's best to copy the data in the standard manner.
You can try TestDisk:

Good luck.

Didn't you make a backup of the data BEFORE you tried a merge? If we teach you nothing else at this forum, remember to backup, backup, backup.
You should do a scandisk and defrag before you merge partitions.

I guess you're going to have to either accept the loss or pay someone to help then.
You can read the instructions as well as I can. You don't need me to translate. I've only used it twice to recover lost partitions that resulted from corrupted partition tables. That's easy - TestDisk 101. I know nothing beyond that.

Testdisk is on UBCD, BTW.

Aw, I got totally lost reading the instructions on the website. My first attempt at a download of the program busted and my second attempt got a different successful result. I found the .exe and ran it, but to no avail. It said the partition couldn't be recovered. As said, I should have backed it up. Fortunately I do have a pretty good compilation of most of the data saved on other media, and although timely, I'll be able to recreate the info. Thanks for the program as I am sure someday it will come in handy.
