The LPT1 is a parallel port and not a serial port. And it should be 25pin female. Your serial ports are 9pin male and/or in your case 25pin male. It looks as though com 1 is prob. your 9pin one and com 4 is the 25 pin one. You might want to check your bios to make sure that both com ports are running/enabled. And do you have a ps/2 port open? That would be the simplest and easiest solution to your problem. That would get your mouse working easlily. and free up a serial port to boot.

But if not then you say you can't get your mouse to work in the 25 pin one/ com4. Make sure that the gender changer or the adapter is working. That would be my 2cents for now. Let me know what you have tried and results.

Okay, I bought a digital camera....it connects with a 9pin serial cable. I don't have any ports open for a 9pin, but I do have a 25pin open.

I went and got an adapter, and they didn't have a 9pM to 25pF so I got a 9pF to 25pF + a 9pM to 9pM gender changer. I hooked the gender changer to the adapter, then hooked the camera serial cable up to the whole shebang.

the camera said it was connected but no go with uploading the pics.

I call the Polaroid help number, they tell me that the mouse has to go on the 25p port, it only uses two pins of the 9pin and the camera uses all of them.

So I undo it, and move the mouse over to the 25p, and it isn't installed, so I run Add new Hardware to install it and it puts it in, but it still doesn't work, and when you check it in device manager you can see that it isn't working.

The only ports that show up in Device Manager are the LPT1 for the printer and Com1 and Com4 I am assuming this is the mouse port and ?? the monitor??

So why isn't the 25p port working, and is there anywhere I can go in windows to make it work????

I hate technology!! lol
