I posted a few days ago about my 13yr old screwing up my system. Well, I tried several things, but when I tried renaming the win.com file, then reinstalling....the reinstall didn't work....and I rebooted before changing the name of win.com back and ooooopsy, windows couldn't find itself anymore.

I had to format and then had sissyprissy post for me cuz I couldn't access my CDrom drive, which I was afraid was broken before all the trouble.

Well, I finally got to that drive, sissyprissy has a CTX computer, which has turned out to be a real junker, but comes with a beautiful feature, a bootable recovery cd, that has three different drivers on it for cdroms, one of which happens to be mine. I used her disk and it booted and reinstalled win95 all in one shot.

I now have a nice clean new system, just waiting for me to add stuff to it and mess it up, lol!

I wanted to thank you guys for all the help and now that my system is clean, hear any ideas you have for must have downloads, utilities, etc!

Thanks guys!

JV , I got a HP 6350 stuck on the Win98 splash screen, I also exited outta ms/dos incorrectly. It seems that this HP Pavilaturd don't answer exit or win/wx to escape. What caused my prob, I think, was a non-working sound, I deleted some codecs per MS suggestion and on re-boot ,, uh oh. A prev. post bout this suggested removing the cache in bios, don't think the HP/Puma Bios will allow that. Any magic line to type before I shelve the HD till ??? thanks,, Take me to your leader.

if it was just a dos loop.. See a dos loop is created when the subject (a kid or someone) playing a Dos game or dos application for an adult. then exits.. outta dos improperly.. and not giving it time to write the correct dos setting back into the original autoexec.bat and config.sys files.. therefore causing a loop. that would be easy to fix just type these in

rem > autoexec.wos
rem > config.wos
exit

back in windows.

Can you get into Safe Mode?.. and what OS are you running.. if running 98 use msconfig and uncheck all applications from loading and try booting back to windows.

Most likely it is an app that is causing the problem. But you said your stuck at the splash screen. that screen loads.. then runs your autoexec files and ini files.. it may also be something in there that is being ran but is corrupted.
