just installed a 27.3 gig WD HD which I had to partition into many 2 gig drives b/c of 1995 AMI BIOS limitations. Trouble is after all was installed (all HD working nicely) the "A" drive is only accessible upon booting (boot sequence is <A, CD, C> ). Cannot invoke the "A" drive wither within an app such as Word or Excel, nor via "My computer", nor DOS. Each time I try to do so I get the "selected drive not in use" msg.

Went into control panel thinking I may have a hardware conflict, but to no avail-only one floppy drive was recognized.

Anyone with ideas? Should I delete all floppy drives and hope windows reeinstalls a floppy driver?

thx for your help and have a great day!

Take a look in your bios and make sure you have the floppy drive activated.
There is an option in the bios that says somthing like " report floppy to " at least there is in my bios.
Hope this helps.

here is a suggestion.... 1st... WD will have a hard drive management program for that hard drive (or they usually will) check with them... you may be able to have fewer larger drives rather than a whole bunch of small ones. Unfortuneately it usually means you will lose all the data on your drives.... So back up before you use the hard drive manager utility.

Next.... Wraith is on the money. The floppy drive does need to be set in the BIOS or else it will never function no matter how many drives you do or dont have.

Good luck hope it helps.

I'm confused how many floppy drives you have.
You mentioned one listed and then asked about deleting "all" of them.
Yes it has to be set in the bios.
Also you need to have a "floppy disk controller" listed in the device manager.
