I have been trying to install windows 98 on
a family members computer but it keeps giving
me strange symptoms I fdisked it formatted and then tried to run setup on the windows 98 cd (after booting with a win 98 startup disk) it does scandisk then reports no errors but soon as it stsrts copying files I get weird errors like
1. Suwin Error Segment load Failure.
2. Can't decompress corrupt .cab files.
3. Screen just turns white and freezes.
4. not enough conventional memory to install windows.
I thought it was maybe a scratched cd but I tried another one same buggy things would happen. This computer did work a couple of weeks ago What type of hardware problem do you think I am encountering I also noticed one time upon restarting the computer it went through the post then looped back and went through it again about 8 times in a row.

The Specs are an Amd K6-2 400
64 megs ram
unknown vid and sound card
40x cd rom
any help will greatly be apreciated Thanks in
advance for those who reply

you might want to go to support.microsoft.com

the not enough memory error is definately in the database but the 1st error was not.

here is the link for the not enough memory search if you want it
http://search.support.microsoft.com/kb/psssearch.asp?SPR=w98&T=B&KT=ALL&T1=7d&LQ=.+not+enough+conventional+memory+to+install+win dows&PQ=PastQuery&S=F&A=T&DU=C&FR=0&D=win98x%2Bor%2B ierelease%2Bor%2Bcustserv%2Bor%2Bcrossnet&LPR=%22windows+98%22&LNG=ENG&VR=http%3A%2F%2Fsupport.microsoft.com%2Fsupport&CAT=Support&VRL=ENG&SA=ALLKB&Go.x=22&Go.y=19

I know it is a mouthful..... just glad I did not type it all out.
