I'm sorry but I'm having a bit of trouble understanding your post.....are you saying.

When you put a BLANK(unburned) MAXELL CDR in your HP burner you get that error message?

What program are you running? does this error message come up any time you place a disk in the drive? What version of software are you running? is the software uptodate? detail, details http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I'm thinking you burned what you thought was a music CD and selected the data disk option - a stereo won't recognize it.

If that isn't the issue, I'd say you might have a bad burn on the CD, or someone attempted to do a CDRW write to the media - a CDR won't read that - neither will a stereo.
