My hard drive quantum 10gig fireball is reading "pri master HDD error" at satart-up. I have american megatrends dmi2.0 bios. The real problem is that if this drive is plugged into the system then I cannot boot from floppy. swapping out drives on the same system removes the problem. Is this drive just toast??

Do you have the boot sequence in the BIOS set to a:, c: - if you have it trying to boot off the hd first without looking at the a: drive at all - you'll never boot from a floppy.

Next question - why not make the new drive the primary slave and try using it that way - you can test it that way to see if the system will even access or recognize it without having to worry that it won't boot.
