well, I've heard they've done away with some of the things that were so bad about vista..so we shall see. However, me next OS will be a MAC. :t

I don't think I'll even go after the beta. Linux does the trick for me already, KDE4 fills the eye-candy requirement and wine runs just about every Windows program I care about.

Besides, there were just too many things about Vista (besides the excessive allow/deny messages) added and switched around that I found inconvenient, and I have a good feeling won't change in Windows 7.

Someone please prove me wrong. :t

Have read a heap of articles about it, but i doubt i will be using it for some time, am still tinkering with Vista and it will be a while before i even consider rolling it out and replacing the XP machines here.

add to that the intensive hardware requirments, control panel items scattered all over creation, IE 7 sucks. etc.

Hell, I'd have to build a new machine, and I finally got this one working the way I like it. XP for me, for now. Vista is the new ME. I can hope that 7 will be much better by the time it comes out, maybe then I can afford a new box.

Intel Q6600 @ 3400 mhz.

4 gig 1066 ram.

2x3870 crossfire

PCP&C 750 watt PSU

X-Fi extreme music

This machine runs vista ultimate without a hitch. I have never had a BSOD or had to do a hard restart on it. I disabled UAC and tweaked a few things to my liking but vista is OK if you have the machine for it. Most of the guff comes from people that bought "Vista Ready" machines. They aren't really vista ready.

I figure I'll try windoze 7 and see if I like it.

BTW. This thread sucks. JM should be banned for starting this thread.

This is mildly relevant though not in the least bit interesting - looks like the marketing and development people put their heads back in the sand. It's a hot dogging marketers dream pie all covered in sparkly magic dust and big dollar bills.............. tell me it ain't so Joe................... )-| )-| http://www.internetnews.com/icom_includes/footers/icom_foot.png (http://www.internetnews.com/)

Windows 7 May Trigger 64-bit OS Adoption The key to the PC's future may be the upcoming 64-bit edition of Windows 7. (http://www.internetnews.com/software/article.php/3781891)

Bout time the software people catch up to the hardware. But then again, the 80386 was a 32 bit processor and it wasn't until Win 98 that they went 32 bit O/S if I remember right.

It's an entire lifetime of programming that needs to get junked - catch 22........... baby with the bathwater. M$ could go 64 bit only but not even they can afford that risk l guess.
Did ya see that?........... it was pink ....... it was airborn........... had a wiggly li'l tail.

yea..well for the place I work at, they are stilling using win2k as an os...better hold off on that 64 bit **** for a bit I think...

If yaz do it right, the upgrade to Server 2008 is free. Licencing can be a probby though. Heck l think they even throw in the hardware at the moment.
