Here's the problem. Just built another computer and I just wanted to make sure everything works, so I was trying to use the Sound Recorder that comes with Win98 (not SE)to check the Awe64. All it will play is about half a second of the sound no matter which sound I choose to play (ta-da, chimes, etc). I tried different speakers - no help. I plopped a different sound card in - no help, and put the card in a different computer and, as I expected, it works perfectly.
So I ruled out the speakers and sound card...which leaves the OS or a conflict, right? There isn't any exclamation mark in Device Manager so it probably isn't a conflict. Which leaves the OS. I don't have another copy of 98 so before I go out and get one I thought I'd ask you guys (and gals) if you think thats what I should do.
By the way, I threw a music CD in and it played perfect. I'm using an Epox mv3gm with a k620-450 if that helps.
Thanks, Raz

Something else is trying to use that cards IRQ or memory allocation. Try switching slots and updating the drivers.

I had same problem! The card is isa check pnp in bios set resourese controlled to manual gp to irq for sound card and set to isa legacy, that should make work. I had mine working for six reformatted had same problem. I think its because system I have is running at 133mz. I tryed the card in a 100mz computer I have went right in. PS the awe64 gold works with soundblaster live setup and all the extras. I found that out when I but the card in the other computer. The first was a intel p3600e(133mz), other system is amd 500 (100mz) good luck
