client brought in his PC today. EMACHINES T3830. said he thought it was the power button. admitted to toying around in side with the wires. went to intel's website for a diagram on this board. they were no help. the diagram that they have does not match this board. on their diagram, the slot for front panel power and front panel USB are backwards and the screw hole for theirs is in between, whereas on this one the screw hole is to the left. before I go too far, I need to know the order of the plugs on slot J9G1(front panel power).

If it's an emachine, then the wires should be keyed. They also use proprietary motherboards, so did the user replace his board with an Intel?

I would check the power supply before I worried about the mobo.

Every board I have ever seen has small markings on the mboo with the plug IDs (pwr, reset, HDD, etc). Look closely.

I completely agree with you on that. however, this one only has "Front Panel HD" & J9G1 on it. same with the adjacent one "Front Panel USB" & J9H1.
