I have formatted my parents old p120 system that I upgraded up a couple of years ago becuase it was playing up. But now the fan comes on and the light on the front of the PC and it even switches the monitor on, yet nothing actually happens it just seems to hang. Any ideas would be greatfully appreciated.

Looks like Gene's all over this one http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Waiting for Craig's reply before I mention anything besides what Gene already did http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif...Well just 1 more question..What was done recently to the machine just before it starting "hanging" ? How long ago did the problem arise?
Opps that was 2 questions http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

The fan comes on and it sounds like the hard drive is working but nothing actually comes on the monitor, the monitor stays blank. I've trie another pc and the monitor works fine with that so it can't be the monitor.

If the screen is simply black, no bios messages, no post, etc... I would reseat the RAM and CPU, and as long as you are at it inside the case, reseat any cards (video, etc.)

Do that, and give it another boot and see if your screen comes to life. If not, listen for beeps coming from the puter. If there are some, it would be helpful to know what they are, how many, their pattern, and so on.
Also, if you still have problems after doing the above suggestions, make sure that when you post the results, you also list for us the make and model of the motherboard.
