My husband bought a USB card that has 4 ports. The motherboard manual for the machine I build indicates that it supports 2 USB ports. Since the unopened box is past the 14 day return, can this card be used? If tried, would/could it cause a problem?
SIS530 MB
ATI all in wonder
on board sound
64 mb memory
win98 SE
linksys network card
zoltrix modem

Thanks

It should work fine. It sounds like the card may have a built in hub. Check the manual to see what the bandwith of the card is. The regular on board USB has 12 MB bandwith. Normal add-in cards have the same. If this card has some sort of built in hub (not familiar witht his type of card) and only has a 12MB bandwith, then some devices may not work properly. I only say this b/c my USB TV device does not work properly on a USB hub. Any add-in card will add to your bandwith. It should work fine though. Your mobo will support more than 2 ports. My mobo says it supports two but it is talking about ports connected directly to the mobo, not including hubs or addin cards. Hope this helps.
