Adding a cdrw

I'm a novice and attempted to add a CDRW with my 50X Player everything looked good I set it as the slave on the same ribbon as the 50X but when I rebooted neither drive started up. Now I can't get my machine to read or see my 50X or the CDRW, any one know how to get my origonal setting back or reset the machine to read my Cd, I disconected the CDRW until I can read further in the Manuel but it's on a CD.

do you have the cables on right. the #1 "red" side of the ribbon close to the power connector? I have master hdd and slave 44x cd-rom on first motherboard connector. and my cdrw on master on the motherboard second channel. did you set them up in your bios. do you have both channels turned on in bois, some cdrw don't like to be a slave. if this dosen't help give me some more info.
