I have an Annihilator Pro video card. This problem occurs when I switch vsync to "on by default" in the Open GL properties. This not only happens in Descent 3 but in Quake 3 when GL extension are turned off and in Sin. I hate tearing and want to get rid of the flashing textures with vsync "on by default"! I'm using 3.68 drivers. I'd like to know if my card is defective before I return it for a refund.

Sound like a driver issue to me. I defintely would try updating to the newest 3.72 beta set, then apply all the needed registry patches. All the information needed can be found in an earlier post of mine:
