Thanx for reading,

I am wondering, what makes most sense when I want to get the longest hard disk live span?
Spinning off the drive every 3 minutes (more stressful for the mechanics to spin back on but drive is off when you don’t need it) or always on (no stress to spin on but more mechanical wearing also when you don’t need it)?

Probably somewhere between these values?

Is there some hard drive specialist willing to tell something about this “power saving” for hard disks?

Greetings,

Bas.

You'll probably never be able to tell the difference. If one method does in fact "help" the life span of a hdd, we're only taking about minutes added onto something that will last several years. (knock on wood)

You will probably upgrade the pc before you wear it out?!?!?
