What I have is a Q9450 cpu and I'm seeking a heatsink fan for it ,I used the intel supplied fan but the catches on it really suck and don't hold well , I've seen some heatsinks that come with bottom plates to hold it better to the board but I don't want to take the board out of the case to do this , I'm looking for an easy heatsink but not the same fastening connection as the intel supplied type
Thanks in advance

I just bought a new CPU cooler a few months back and i too had problmes using the included clip mounts etc.. So i just used the one supplied with my stock CPU that came with the processor. it works although probably not the one percribed.
I bought one alot like the third link down by Zerotherm. very nice cooler and any of these are huge, but if you have a mid tower case they should work fine.
I also used to have the 'Artic Freezer 64 Pro' model , but it uses a three pin connector. The other one, the ' Artic Freezer Pro' ( same model as the other but four pin connector uses the newer mounting method as seen. )
Only issue with using the stock link connector is is is not as stable, meaning it can turn slightly and may not hold the HSF to CPU rigid. Mine can turn some, but nothing to worry about as its snug fit as is the cooling or operation. It works fine.

I appreciate the help but I went to microcenter and picked one out which was the best thing I could have done because I wanted a heat sink fan that faces upward and that would fit in a medium case also my MB has a speacial heatsink plate that gets connected right under the CPU so I had to modify what I bought any how , I couldn't and wasn't able to put a regualar plate mount under the MB that comes with these speacial heatsinks :t
Thanks for your time!
Ya know what gets me is that these heatsinks are so expensive and it really is nothing to them compared to whats in a power supply unit  and the power supplies run just a little bit higher in price , I don't get it

I always flip my heat sink fans to suck air into the sides of the heatsink and then blow the hot aire away from the processor.

LOL. Another advantage to getting the case i have now, was i turned the HSF downward, which is in line with the rear exhaust fan. ( I would guess there's plenty of cooling going on with (3) 120MM fans and one 200MM. Going to get another for the side window also.
My other MB was a socket 939, and still don't know if the early AM2's and the quads use different sockets, nor diff. MB's and how thier setup. On mine there is nowhere to clip anything extra on the socket. ;)

HSF's are an afterhtough, and not necessarily an intregrille part of ones system. On the other hand, a PSU is far more important as its the sole of running adeqate power to ones system for operation. Don't know why you would compare one to the other?
