Symantec has agreed to acquire PC Tools (Spyware Doctor, Registry Mechanic), a provider of anti-virus, anti-spyware and PC utility tools for users of Microsoft Windows. The acquisition is expected to close by the end of 2008. The acquisition brings PC Tools' computer maintenance, utility and security technologies into Symantec's consumer products.

Great - another good company gets assimilated and destroyed.

Aaaargh; there goes the nice free AV/firewall/threatfire software that I get my friends and relatives to use. Their paid software is good too. :(

It may not be a total loss. Worrysome though.
"PC Tools will maintain separate operations within Symantec's consumer business unit. PC Tools will continue to offer its products under the PC Tools brand and serve its customers through its existing partners and channels, according to Symantec. "

Companies always say there will be no, or little changes when they take over another. This is pretty well always false. They leave things alone for a few months; then down comes the hammer. Aquisitions are usually completed to eliminate competition. imo any way. :)

Seen that many a time, sygate comes to mind, but they leave GHOST pretty much alone for years.

The current Ghost is based on DriveImage, which was acquired from PowerQuest. Of course it has gone through a lot of revisions since Ghost 9.

Why I still use 2003 and yes I do have the older drive image before it was sold and they both still work.

That wasn't my point. You said they left Ghost alone. The current Ghost is DriveImage with a Symantec logo on it. Ghost 2003 was the last release of the original code before Ghost 9/DriveImage 7.
Cdroman got it right. The big fish eat the little fish. And then you forget there ever were little fish. :p
