So here's the question...If I reformat my harddrive and reinstall my O/S with my Win98 cd, will I have any problems now that it is year 2000? I have obviously Y2K patched all of my programs, but if I reformat and reinstall, all of the windows programs will not be Y2K compliant.

I did make a boot disk that was supposedly Y2K ready (following microsoft's instructions), so should that keep me from having any glitches upon the reinstall?? Do you think I'll be able to reinstall win 98 then just get the Y2K updates from microsoft?? Or will I crash and burn?? Anybody tried reformatting/reinstalling their OS yet?? Am I making any sense?? Thanks!! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

You should have no problem but you will have to re-apply any Y2K patches.

Y2K was a fluke. I have installed w98 w95 wnt all without any kind of updates on systems as old as 486's this month with zero problems. I don't think you have anything to worry about other than applying your software patches for applications that are date sensitive. I am sure that there are some obscure things that are messed up due to y2k but I haven't ran into them yet.

The only thing I had a problem with and only on one 486, was the award bios and it wouldn't maintain the proper date. It kept displaying 2097 but the computer ran just fine. You shouldn't have any problems wiht the reload.
