I'm new to this so please bear with me.*I am trying to create a dual boot system without using the
programs
that are out there. I have two partitions on my hard drive and would
like to install win98 on both. Win 98 is currently installed on drive C.
****I propose:
******Copying win98 folder from cd to drive D
******Moving C: autoexec.bat., config.sys., msdos.sys to C:\boot
******Running setup from D:\win98
******I assume this will install new boot files in C
*****Create shortcut in D to Win
98\rundll.exe.user.exe.exitwin98\C:\boot
*****
******Will it work?

don't know why you would want to have two sets of windows 98 on the system. but, all of you boot info is keep on you first partition being c:\. and unless you hide one from the other. windows won't let you have two vers of 98 on the same system. you could jusy make a c:\ boot and than a d:98 and a e:98 and either use fdisk to set them active. or do one as a 32 fat and the other one 16 fat. . but, I think you are asking for trouble with shared files and crosslinked ones. I hope I understand what you are tryin to do.

I am kind of a minimalist I guess. My intention is to tear apart the second
copy to get rid of all the junk. My wife
doesn't like the idea, so I wan't the first
system to remain intact. I assume the moving
of the batch files to a folder will hide the
first system from the second and I will be able to install. Can you help further?

If you are wanting to "tinker" I would suggest just getting 2 harddrives in swappable drive caddies. With just a simple pull and push you have changed the harddrive and your back in business.
