I have 128Mb of ram. What [VCACHE] settings should i have in my system.ini file?
that's what i currently have:
[vcache]
MinFileCache=32768
MaxFileCache=32768
ChunkSize=1024
Thanks, Ilya

Wow. That's huge. You have your vcache set at a permanent 32mb. Which give your system 32mb less to have for other things.
I have 192mb of RAM and here's my vcache settings:
[vcache]
minfilecache=8192
maxfilecache=25600
chunksize=512
8mb minimum, 25mb maximum, Windoze adjust it as needed. Chunksize can get rather compicated, but I've seen a very indepth benchmark reports testing various sizes of chunksize best overall size to use is 512, with 1024 being a close second. Anything other than those two number produced poor results.

Hmmm, what if your system.ini has no [vcache] settings at all, like mine?
Doesn't it have a default value or something? Or is it supposed to be empty?

I have often heard it is better to set the Vcache static in size. though 32 mb is a tad on the large size. Mine is set at a static 24mb (i think) and i have no problems.
nano if you don't have a vcache setting in your system.ini just copy one of the above examples set the min and max values to whatever we decide to be the best.

I know it's best to have a static size swap file but with vcache, because it's all in RAM and can be adjusted so quickly, it doesn't have much (or any) affect on performance.
Actually, the less RAM you have, the better it would be to have an variable size vcache.
For example, if you have 128mb RAM and set your vcache to a static 32mb, then that's 32mb of RAM that the system cannot use for anything except for vcache. So essencially you just reduced your 128mb to 96mb.
However, if you set the vcache to a variable 4mb minimum and 32mb maximum then Windoze can access that RAM if necessary. Like if the system was only using about 10mb as vcache that would allow for that extra 22mb to be used by the system. (and don't fool yourself to thinking that Windoze can get by on only 96mb of RAM).

I might be a little late on this. but, this is what I use. I have also have 192 and I have my
min. 4096
max. 32768
have never used the chunk size setting. what does this do? and dose if make a difference if you don't set a chunk size.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe the chunksize is 512 by default.
