Any advice on choosing a 5+GB drive and instructions on replacement for a CTX 700 Series Laptop. I have never opened up a laptop before. How proprietary are they?

Thanks, Tom Hoover

Very. Not only Mfg to Mfg, but model to model is different many times. Some are very easy. Their would be a plate with screws underneath the laptop or sometimes the are housed on the side of a laptop. Start pulling plates off and see if you are lucky. If not, then it will be accessible from underneath your keyboard, which is a bit trickier but still dooable.

laptops are a different world altogether. I would first go to my ctx site and find the right info. and see if you have a reg. or a slim style hdd. and than jump over to a toshiba hdd site and see if they have a drive that will work on your system. and make sure the bios will support a large drive of that size."there might be a bios fix for it" I usually use that brand of drive for a upgrade. and most of the time you can remove the keyboard and all the works are accessable. I'v never dealt with a ctx before. but, you can do it. just don't get into any big hurry. and don't force anything. and make sure you are careful when you unhook the keyboard. if you don't. you will make the keyboard useless. and always unplug and remove the battry from the system. hope this helps.
