Hey does anyone know if any of those programs out there that will hide your IP address really work? Or is this something you can do yourself with some tweaking?

This programs do not Hide your IP.

Without a valid IP there is no communication on the Internet if your IP is "Hidden" the information would not come back to you and you would get an empty screed.

These type of programs direct you to Proxies.

When you use a Proxy the site that you go to does not know your IP but it knows the Proxy IP.

And the Proxy Knows and logs yours.

When people that do bad things over the Internet are Not brought to justice, it is usually Not because they cannot be found, but because they do it from countries that would Not cooperate with International law enforcement.

Thanks for the info. I was reading a article that said leaving your IP address for everyone to see, leaves you vulnerable to security issues. Now I know better, I haven't had a problem with any hackers or threats. My firewall does a good job and I run CS on a regular basis.

I didn't realize that your IP address is a normal necessity and really doesn't leave you vulnerable. Thanks for the clarification.
