I'm using MS Outlook 2003 on Windows XP. I've created a template by starting a new mail mssg and saving it as a template. When I use a rule that triggers when a message matches the Subject line so that a reply is sent using this template the new mail message is created and placed in the Outbox but is never sent. When I looked to see why I see that it is because there is nothing in the To: box. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can get this to work?

Thanks for the reply. I followed the steps and I get the same result. A message in the Outbox with nothing in the To: field.

Are you sure that the message was not sent? I too have the message sitting in my outbox without a name in the "To" field, but the reply is nevertheless sent to the proper address with the name in that field.

You're right! Great - problem solved! Other than the fact that an MS program again under-performs the free email program I've been using up until now ):

I guess that's just how it works; the template has to be sitting at the ready in the outbox, just waiting to be triggered by the rule, with a name and destination.
Anyway, glad we have that sorted. :)

I'm so glad you made that comment. I had deleted the template from the Outbox after getting everything to work, not realizing that it had to reside there to work.
One more question. Now that I've deleted the template from the Outbox I can't seem to get it back there and working. I've deleted the rule and rebuilt the rule. I tested the rule using another email address and the rule did not send out a reply. I checked the Outbox and no template is in the Outbox.
