The answer here i think is Scandisk and Defrag,i have noticed the defrag in win95 says my disk is 0% fragmented but Norton speed disk said it was 78% fragmented,so even when it syas it dont need it use it anyway.
And also make sure your writer is on second ide as master and your hard disk is on
first ide as master. But defrag defrag defrag.
hope this helps ya.

I've found that I don't get underruns or other problems if I:

Turn everything else off - EVERYTHING!!

Redirect EasyCD to not use the Windows directory for temp files. Point it to a different drive if possible.

Validate layout as last thing before starting a test & create sequeence.

Once started, I walk away. Literally. Leave the room!!

I think your problem is related to the temp files, since it gets worse as time goes by.

Make sure you get a reboot inbetween making CD's. The Software virtually cripples your ocmputer, leaving something like 84 kb of RAM left over when it's finished. That was with 256 mb. To effectively burn, you should have at least 126 mb of RAM. Also, anything under about a 350 seems to have problems too. I Underran mine for a long long time, it's frustrating but you learn. I would download Rambooster, so you can free up as much ram as possible, and CTRL-Alt-Del and get out of everything but the program, systray, and explorer. Rambooster can stay, but you might as well get rid of it also, after you've freed up as much RAM as possible. I don't think the temp file affects it much, it has to do with RAM from what I've seen. If you call Sony, their first question will be "What version software are you running?" and then "Have you tried burning at a lower speed?" not to mention "Are you exiting all programs before you start?" If you do everythign they say and it doesnt work, they officially declare that your computer just isnt "good" enough to run their burner. You could mess up 3 spindles, and tell them that throughout the conversation, and you will still hang up having gained nothing. Hope I could help a little. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

you can go here and look around...I have no problem burning with easy cd creator and still surf the net while burning with no coasters...I believe you will find many here who do the same thing with no problems..do your homework and read read read and then try different things and see what will work for your particular burner and system...use cdrw's untill you figure it all out and then go cd'rs

here is another

Are you using Easy CD Creator? Is so - ditch it and go with Nero. Nero solved 99.99% percent of my problems and that thing (HP 8100) is nearly perfect now

I have a cd burner and am using adapted ez cd 3.5 and never have had a problem. I am running a k6-2 400 and 64 megs of ram, and can burn anytime, i did ruin a few cds, but that before i knew what i was doing....i have burned up to 25 cds in a day and never rebooted or had a problem

There must be something else wrong with your setup. At school we have an amd k62 350 with 96 mb of ram running win98. It is on 24-7 and only gets rebooted when it crashes (about twice a month). It is also running rc5 all the time and has a lot of ftp'ing done on it while burning. We have burned probably 20 cd's a day on it every day for a week before without a reboot and without a coaster. this is using adaptec easy cd creator 3.0. I would suggest defrag as freem said. Also does it only give the errors while copying a cd or also when burning from hd?

Yep, thats a big thing right there...

If you haven't already, then set it to 1/4 your total ram.

Also, set your swap file to static, about 128M min and max.

Look at this article to explain it all:

I have a sony cd burner running easy cd creator 3.5, it burns disks fine with a fresh install of windows but it start giving bufferunderrun errors after a while. Ive reinstalled the software but still making coasters. If i reinstall windows it will work again but i dont want to reinstall every 3 weeks. Also the disk will be labeled audio cd and it will have a 1kb file called track1.cda wich will not be there after reinstall of windows
