ive just installed a maxtor 4808
cdrw slight problems
1. on writeing cds system hangs on pressing ctrl alt & del it says msgsvr32 not responding.
2.sound has packed in,continuous clicking
3.when i plug in my digital camera the whole system fails.
whats going on ive managed to burn 1 cd (data) and zero music
any genius out there deserves a medal if they can solve this one!

Sounds like you may have a lot messed up there.
1st- what software are you using and are there any updates for it out there?
2nd- Try and reinstalling the software and in the systray (you get there by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL) and shutdown anything but systray and explorer.
3rd-Look at your IDE cable or SCSI (if it is a SCSI) and see the configuration of them in your BIOS. Which is listed as Master pri. slave pri. and Master Sec. Slave Sec.
I would suggest that you put hdd on Master pri. CDrom slave pri. CDR Master sec.
4th- the audio cd's look at the audio cables coming from the CDROM and FROM the CDR. On mine I have a A SB Live and you need an audio cable from the CD rom to the sound card and also one from the CDR to the audio cable. If your sound card dosen't let you to do that then you need a sound card. You buring CD's from MP3's or just copying CD to the CDR?
Not sure what my IQ is but is that ok?

It is a resource conflct, probably IRQ.

Pushing a lot of data through older machines
is not a good idea. Printer ports are not
that tough, wondering when the first case of
computer fire results from high data/current
transfers through these weenie connection will happen?

Why cannot the industry create a decent high
data port/s for the PC?

If a win freak palying with Resourses in Device manager should be fun if not seek help
from some old hand at the game.
