I have a pc built from a bare bones kit. It has a BCM/GVC IN5598 board [Packard Bell 850] It reboots several times a day, both while being used and when idle. Mcafee Utilities reports failed RTC Alarm IRQ test,min=-1 max=0 and avg=0. Also when running the memory to memory test the system crashes. I have 4 simms and have swapped them out using 2 at a time with no improvement. Can anyone shed some light on this? Please.

what's wrong with the clock?

You're PSU may be strained, remove all expansion cards, bar video.

You're memory may not handle you're FSB setting; what is it?

Your CPU may be overheating.

Few suggestions, just my 2cents

I agree most probably overheating - fan runnig slow. a spot of thin oil will prove the point then change the fan.
Though i once had a problem like this and I was resetting it with my knee
for what it was worth you are welcome

Oh man...it strikes again. I had the exact same thing happen to 2 different compaqs sitting right next to each other, both different models. To tell you the truth, I'm still not sure what it was. It was not the power supplies, it was not the outlets, no overclock, wasnt the data on the drives or viruses or anything like that. Sorry, I cant remember what I did to them to fix them.
