I have a Maxtor 60G installed as my primary slave drive.
System BIOS is able to identify the drive but Windows 98 can't see it.
Norton Disk Doctor reports "error on hard disk 2 master partition table is unreadable the master partition table is physically damaged"
Is it possible that my IDE cable has failed?
Or could it a boot-sector virus?
Any advice/suggestion would be much appreciated

I am not a storage expert, but it seems likely you have a HHD going bad. My 60 G Maxtor failed a couple of years ago. There are still anabundance of IDE drives available (I have a 500 G Seagate...IDE)

You might be able to save your data or redo the boot sector just hard to say.

You don't post all that often do you.

It does sund more like a hard drive going bad.

Try running a drive diagnostics utility to test.
