I have an Emachine, I know, I know, but the price was wright. Well it's a 366C with a Cyrix M II 366 and a Deli-111 ATX V1 form factor motherboard. I want to upgrade my CPU and all I get from the Manufacturer is we do not suport upgrades and will not supply any information, can I change over to a Celeron? if so how fast 433, 450 this thing only runs at 251.

A Celeron won't fit the socket. you have a Super Socket 7 motherboard, maybe an AMD K6-II or III chip will work, but you need to check your manual first.

You should be able to put an AMD K6-2 350-450 in it. It is a shame they have such bad tech support.

They came right out & said this???
NO upgrade support whatsoever??

If you got the name of who said this, I'd write a complaint letter to management & demand technical data on your hardware!

You need to find who made that board & the specs. Get any numbers or markings from it & do a search over at http://www.motherboards.org/
I tried a search for "deli" & there were no matches.

I certainly do not know about this particular system, but there are some cheap, all-in-one motherboards on which a Cyrix CPU is permanently attached to the board.

Have you looked inside the case to see if the CPU is actually in a socket?

That's the whole kick about EMachines. They build "disposable" computers. When you want to upgrade, you buy another one. You get what you pay for. Usually neither RAM or CPU can be upgraded. I'd bet that the motherboard is permanately set for that cyrix chip. Either soldered, or it's max speed is..333? I'm not sure what speed those run at, I know they used to be one setting back or something...300 was 266, 200 was..150.

A Cyrix 366 probably runs at 100 X 2.5 = 250mhz
I had a Cyrix 333, factory specs were 83 X 3 = 249
The 366 running with a 100 mhz bus is one step up from the 333.
I turned up the 333 to 100 X 2.5 and it was comparable to their 366. This is about the only way to get more out of a Cyrix as they won't oveclock.

Fred: How long have you had this computer???
Anyway to take it back and get a refund????
I looked at E machines when I was going to buy one for my daughter. what I didn't like was the "Restore" disc, instead of getting all the software for the applications along with the computer. Best of Luck http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
