I have an Amptron 8600B MB with an AMD K-6 233. I am trying to increase the memory on the board. When I put in 2 32 meg DIMMs the startup says that I have 64 meg but I am running a 180 mhtz cpu. If I use a 64 meg DIMM it reads it as 16 meg. If I use a 32 meg and 64 meg DIMM the MB recogizes 48 meg. I have tried varies DIMMs with the same results, so it is not the individual DIMM sticks.

Check on the web for spec's on this board or find a manual. some boards won't run dimms and simms at the same time. Or if you have 1 dimm slot and 4 simm slots you may have to use only the first 2 simm slots if you're also using a dimm.

Some earlier motherboards do not work properly with 64Meg DIMMs. I had a PCChips board that had this same problem (64=16) and whne I flashed the BIOS to the latest version it fixed that and added a few other features.

Check to see if the BIOS is the latest.
